VIOLATION LETTER Q4 2017 - Trihalomethanes
The City of Rhome is sending out letters regarding the violation of maximum contaminant levels (MCL) for total trihalomethanes for the fourth quarter of 2017. It should be noted that the violation is based on a running average of the last four quarters not just one single quarter. The City's MCL for the last two quarters was at or under the 0.080 mg/L level since Walnut Creek, the City's major water supplier, has begun the chlorine dioxide treatment prior to the City receiving water from Walnut Creek. The average for all four quarters of 2017 was used for calculating the overall Q4 2017 violation which was 0.083 mg/L.

WATER QUALITY UPDATE
Walnut Creek Special Utility District received final approval from TCEQ to install a chlorine dioxide generator at their water treatment facility which supplies the City of Rhome with surface water. The generator was installed on August 1, 2017, and preliminary testing showed a 78% reduction in trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and haloacetic acids (HAA5s). The District believes that their averages for these byproducts should be below the maximum levels within two quarters. The City of Rhome water quality should see the same results since the majority of the water used by the City is from Walnut Creek Special Utility District.
